It functions as a normal laundry basket, but you can also sit down on it when needed. That's what this product is. And when we say "you can sit on it," we're not exaggerating. It officially passed strength tests conducted by a public testing institution in Tokyo, based on JIS standards for "chairs."

Why is it so sturdy?

Although this basket has a wire frame, it's not made of bent hollow pipes. It's formed by welding and processing solid, thick stainless steel round bars (solid wire). While it looks sleek, its structure is quite robust.

In fact, our staff would often sit on these baskets during exhibitions when they got tired from standing. They didn't budge. You could even stand on them to work on something, and the rigidity was perfectly fine.

The concept of "Sittable"

The series of tasks involved in folding, taking in, and sorting laundry are often done standing up. This basket naturally provides "a place to sit for a bit" within that workflow. The word "Sittable" might not be very familiar, but it means "able to sit" (Sit + Able). It's not a stool or a chair, yet you can sit on it. It can be used as a laundry basket, yet you can sit on it. We use this word to express both functionalities.

About the set contents

While ZACK's original configuration has the cotton inner bag and wooden lid sold separately, zack.haus sells them as a set. The wooden round lid is designed to fit the top of the basket so it can also be used as a seat.

A word

Actually, there's a story behind why this laundry basket came to undergo official testing as a "chair."

Previously, when we exhibited at trade shows, tired staff members would sit on this basket, or stand on it as a step to retrieve items from high places. It was surprisingly the perfect height. Even with such a load, the product remained completely stable.

One day, when I was making a sales call to a major mail-order company that had been handling ZACK products for a long time, I mentioned to the representative, "It's incredibly sturdy, adults can sit on it without any problem." They gave me a perfectly reasonable response: "According to our standards, we can't officially state that it's 'sittable' unless it passes JIS chair tests."

"In that case, let's officially prove it," I thought, and brought the product to a public industrial testing laboratory operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. After a full day of rigorous durability and strength tests, it passed with flying colors. We can now proudly and officially introduce it as a "sittable basket."
