Sit-able Laundry Basket

There is such a thing as a "laundry basket that you can sit on while putting away your laundry."

It can be used as a normal laundry basket, but you can also sit down on it when needed. That's what this product is.
When we say "you can sit on it," we are not exaggerating. It officially passed strength tests conducted by a public testing institution in Tokyo, based on JIS standards for "chairs."

Why is it so sturdy?

Although this basket has a wire frame, it is not made by bending hollow pipes. It is formed by welding and processing solid, thick stainless steel round bars (solid wire). While it looks sleek, its structure is quite robust.

In fact, our staff would often sit on it during exhibitions when they got tired of standing. It didn't budge at all. It has enough rigidity that you can even stand on it and do work without any problems.

The concept of "Sittable"

I think the series of tasks involved in folding, putting away, and sorting laundry are often done standing up. This basket naturally provides a "place to sit for a moment" within that workflow.
The word "sittable" might not be very familiar, but it means "able to sit" (Sit + Able). You can sit on it even though it's not a stool or a chair. You can sit on it even though it can also be used as a laundry basket. We use this word to express both of these aspects.

About the set contents

The original ZACK product has an inner cotton bag and a wooden lid sold separately, but zack.haus sells them as a set. The wooden round lid is fitted to the top of the basket so that it can also be used as a seat.

A word

Actually, there was a reason why this laundry basket ended up undergoing official testing as a "chair."

Before, when we exhibited at trade shows, our staff, tired from standing, would sit on this basket or even stand on it as a step to retrieve or put away items from high places. It really is an astonishingly perfect height. Even with such a load, the product remained completely stable.

One time, when I visited a major mail-order company that has been handling ZACK products for a long time, I told the person in charge, "It's incredibly sturdy, and adults can sit on it without any problem." They gave me a perfectly reasonable response: "According to our standards, we can't officially state 'can be sat on' unless it has passed the JIS standard chair test."

"In that case, let's officially prove it." With that thought, we brought the product to a public industrial testing laboratory operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. After a full day of rigorous durability and strength tests, it passed brilliantly. It is now officially introduced as a "sittable basket."
